Tübingen bicycle bridge

Tübingen

The new bicycle bridge in Tübingen is intended to impress with its slender, elegant and discreet lines. Utilizing the possibilities of composite construction and adapting to existing structures made this construction an interesting challenge.

The new bicycle bridge over the river Neckar is to be built as a steel structure. The result is a light, multi-span construction with different spans of the individual spans: 31.8m; 7.88m; 28.61m; 15.16 m. The last span of the bridge features a bent centerline compared to the other sections. The width of the bridge is 4.32 m. The existing masonry walls are used as the bridge supports. The superstructure is designed as a composite structure. The cross-section of the structure consists of two trapezoidal boxes made of S355 steel and a 20 cm thick reinforced concrete slab. The sheet thickness of the bottom chord is 40 mm. The two superstructure parts are connected by means of Nelson head bolts.
